There was a time when South Indian Cinema got avoided due to a lack of content, they used to make only mass entertaining movies where one can find dialogues, style, dance, action sequences, or full masala film. But now the unique content and the way storytellers are presenting their contents can’t be avoided.

Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam movies have now become the favorites, all over the country and overseas. Bollywood actors who would follow Hollywood are preferring to do either South Indian Movies or remake the South Indian content for the Hindi audiences.

Hindi Audiences’ vision is very clear now, they are looking for new concepts, wherever they can find whether it’s Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, or else they search for the Hindi version and praise it. Let’s talk about South Indian Movies in 2021 that got critically acclaimed.

1- JAI BHIM

Jai Bhim is a courtroom drama that explores the story of a tribal woman, whose husband has gone missing from the police station, further she seeks the help of the main lead Suriya (Chandru), Story takes a ride from here. With the 9.5/10 IMDb rating, it becomes one of the best Tamil films of the year. This fantastic legal drama is available on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video in all 5languages in Tamil along with its dubbed versions, Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu & Kannada.

2- DOCTOR

The other south Indian movie which has thrilled the audience with its amazing storyline is The Tamil dark comedy Doctor, directed by the talented Nelson Dilipkumar. The film grossed Rs 100 cr in just 25 days, hence marks the third highest grosser of Tamil cinema this year. It has an IMDb rating of 7.7/10 and is available on the leading streaming platform Netflix.

3- MAANAADU

On the third spot, we have the recent release science fiction action thriller Maanaadu, which is being liked for the amazing script, acting, editing screenplay, direction, etc. Recently the south superstar Rajinikanth has made a call to its makers for the huge success of the film. It will be available soon for the wider audience on the digital app SONY Liv. It stars Silambarasan and S.J. Suryah in the main lead roles.

4- LOVE STORY

Known south Indian director Sekhar Kammula’s Love Story is one of the top Telugu grosser this year. It has an IMDb rating of 7.2 out of 10. It was made up of a budget of Rs 30 crores and grossed Rs 70.2 crores worldwide within 20 days. This romantic drama explores an intercaste couple love story, where the upper caste girl role is being played by Sai Pallavi, and Naga Chaitanya is playing Lower caste Christian as Revanth. It is available on the OTT platform Aha.

5- KOTIGOBBA 3

South superstar Kiccha Sudeep starrer Kotigobba 3 is a sequel of his earlier 2016 release Kotigobba 2, it is an action-comedy, written and directed by Shiva Karthik. It grossed Rs 40 crores in just four days of its release. The IMDb rating is 7.8 out of 10. The action-comedy was released on 15 Oct this year and was made available on the digital platform Amazon Prime Video on Nov 24 by the makers.

6- DRISHYAM 2

The critically acclaimed Malayalam cinema drama thriller Drishyam 2 is a sequel to Drishyam (2013). It is available on Amazon Prime Video, the IMDb rating is 8.6 out of 10. Jeethu Joseph is directed as well as wrote the film. It stars Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in the lead role. Critics praise the narration and the performances of the respective actors.

7- MASTER

Master is one of the highest Tamil grosser of the year, it has an IMDb rating of 7.8/10, its stars include two south superstars, Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi. It is available on the giant streaming platform Amazon Prime Video. Lokesh Kanagaraj has directed as well as written the film. The overall gross collection of the film is around Rs 300 crores.

8- KARNAN

Karnan is an action-drama, helmed and written by Mari Selvaraj, IMDb rating 8.2/10. It features superstar Dhanush, in the titular role of Karnan, who fights for the rights of his people, this action-drama is said to be loosely based on 1995 Kodiyankulam caste Violence. It is available on the giant streaming platform Amazon Prime Video.

9- REPUBLIC

With an IMDb rating of 8.5 out of 10, the cult classic political drama Republic is in the spot of no.9 in our Best South Indian Movies list. It stars Sai Dharam Tej, Aishwarya Rajesh, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishna in pivotal roles. Sai is playing an I.P.S officer, who deals with corruption. It will premiere on the OTT platform ZEE5.

10- UPPENA

This romantic drama was made up of Rs 22 crores and grossed overall Rs 90-100 crores at the box office worldwide. It has an IMDb rating of 6.8/10. It revolves around a couple Aasi (Panja Vaishnav Tej) and Bebbamma (Kirthi Shetty), both fall in love with each other but the girl’s father is against it. Vijay Sethupathi is playing Bebbamma’s father role as Kotagiri Sesha Raayanam. It is available on Netflix.
